NID Platform is a project born in 2012 from the sharing of purposes among some organizations for distribution of dance belonging to ADEP (Associazione Danza Esercizio e promozione) and set up in RTO (Raggruppamento Temporaneo d'Operatori), the General Direction for the Performing Arts of MiBACT and local authorities in order to promote and support the best Italian coreographic production.

The NID platform connects Italian companies and Italian and international professionals, creating a dialogue between production and distribution, and enhancing the visibility of the artistic quality of Italian stages in accordance with the plurality of languages and poetry that it expresses.

NID Platform selects through an open call the best companies and the most representative performances, both among well-known realities and emerging choreographers of the Italian scene. These are inserted into a program that lasts 4 days and includes opportunities for discussion and side activities. Thus, NID Platform is configured as an experience in which professional collaborations between national and international production and distribution could ripen, an operating format able to widen and renew the current Italian dance market by spreading among foreign professionals the knowledge of the most important Italian choreographic production.

The 6th edition of NID Platform – the management of which has been entrusted to the Association C.T.R.C. Teatro Pubblico Campano – will be held from 16th to 19th September 2021 in Salerno.

While confirming many of the basic elements who rendered effective all the previous editions, NID PLATFORM 2021 presents itself as a 'special' edition, since its starting coincides with the Covid 19 medical emergency that has affected the cultural and the show sector just like all the others - e.g. social life and national economy. In this scenery, NID Platform 2021 stands as a symbol of trust, as a hope of revival and resurgence of live shows.

Innovations

Thoughts and analysis of the status of artists and producers, who took part in from the first NID till today and the next months, the ones who have believed in the need to extend the participation criteria. In this sense, it has been included in Regulation the possibility for companies to apply for NID even with a debut owing to the anti-Covid decreesmissing; regarding the other proposals, the valid period for the debut has been extended stating that the applicant performances shall have debuted between March 1st 2019 (expiry date of the 2019 call) and the 2021 call expiry date, active between January 25th and April 15th 2021.

As regards missing debuts presented in the ‘Planning’ section, it has been decided to consider valid the proposals of those shows predicting the debut between March 1st 2020 and April 15th 2021, reserving the right to reach an agreement with the candidates on the formula of representation: full version or preview of up to 20 minutes. With the second option, it has been intended to reserve, possibly, to the companies the possibility to offer their final debut as part of national festivals scheduled on dates following NID.

A new important peculiarity of Nid Platform 2021 is closely related to the specificity of the host territory. In the awareness of the greatest difficulties encountered by the dance system of Campania and of southern Italy entering national circuits, it has become certain that for Campania, for companies and artists working on the ground, this NID event represents a rare and valuable opportunity for discussion and promotion of their work. Therefore, it has been assessed appropriate to preserve in the context of the event a space of visibility for dance of Campania by hosting up to 6 productions with their registered office in Campania.

The ‘Open Studios’ section, unveiled during the previous edition, aims to provideto both emerging artists and established companies the opportunity to access the platform with developing dance projects and are looking for co-producers, debuts and partners, a possibility to present their project in front of an qualified audience in a defined and short time. This section will not only be confirmed but it will extend the number of eligible projects up to a maximum of 12.

Given the above, the NID Platform 2021 program will be set up as follows:

  • Calendar: 10 shows (including potential debuts)
  • Open Studios: up to maximum of 12 projects

As in the previous editions, companies and artists may submit nominations through an open call and will then be submitted to the artistic commission’s evaluation, who will be responsible for selecting the shows that will be included in the four-day event.
