“I thought that if I had gotten to the core that consistutes us, I would have been what was keeping, feeding and animating it, lo nutriva, l’animava.” P.Sollers.
This new choregraphic creation was born from the desire to address the issue of reunification, nostalgia of unison. The first advice comes from the concept of Pastorale (Rhythm), by Paul Klee. Pastorale is the third work of a series of four ritual choreographies conceived starting from the creation of anatomic procedures that unfold by composing a spacial and choreographic dimension of the ritual.
During several phases of research Pastorale is inspired by an aphorism of the American composer Moondog: “I do not want to die in 4/4!” My interest in working with his music was born from the desire to explore the universe that generates it, characterised by what he defined “Shaketime” a slithery rythm. Another meeting that is crucial for this work was the book “Numbers” by Philippe Sollers, composed of one-hundred chapters numbered in a series of four, which talks about our existence on the Earth as a constant pursuit, a constant deriving one from the other.
In Pastorale, the choreography wants to be a device created to rise out of the self and access elsewhere, to join outside and the other who is next to us. The aim is to look for a continuous tuning, a rhythmic chain, a strong alliance between bodies that generate a dance unfolding as a perpetual motion; as if corporeal mind stayed constantly vigilant, attentive to every sound, rhythm to grasp and order. In this way it can access a system capable of tuning your own body to a universal rhythm. This procedure will be a resource to create an emotional space in which to explore the fragility of this connection and the risks associated to its loss.
Through the choreographic composition, the aim is to create a mantric process which allows each performer to get close to the collective. In the continuous tuning between bodies it is possible to perceive the birth of a collective mind which redistributes bodies and events, a ritual to rely on, in an attempt to grasp and ride that untouchable empathy and harmony existing between them, capable of carrying them through a new light opening, an escape route to reach the elsewhere which is pure state of grace.
This project develops through the creation of a sign system available for dancers as tools to align with. These signs were born from a constant perceptive description of trends which surround them echoing the choreographic matrix.
In this way the movements of the body generate scans in the close ones, as a series of bending waves expanding and gradually strenghtening in an attempt of catching and reaching themselves without losing. A reflection on a sense of cooperation in modern times, on the need of returning to an inclusive process and mutual listening. On the constant cure of this mechanism that reveals us written in each other.
