Saudade is nostalgia for the future, regret of lost time, and anguish of the time to come, it is a latent state of mind, that tomorrow will be consciousness. This word of Portuguese origin cannot be explained nor translated into the limited horizon oh human words but it has been expressed in art, which has always disclosed the boundless experiences of feelings.
Saudade is an atmosphere, a state of mind, something that lends itself perfectly to be painted through the infinite power of pictures. By studying the main fields in which this word has been expressed, I have explored further the poetics of Fernando Pessoa.
The invention of heteronyms is considered his biggest creation. Inspired by his main literary personalities, four dancers on stage will play different self-identified heteronyms, each of which has its own type of Saudade, that is future-oriented, however bound to the past and the present. Everyone exists as an individual and in relation to the other; this is because Saudade, in contrast to nostalgia and loneliness, is shareable, testable both as an individual and a group.
